Every so often I get really obsessed with The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I remember getting that album and instantly falling in love with it. So much that so many people got it for Christmas from me that year. I played the album to death and waited and waited for a follow up. A follow up never came other than an unplugged album that did not do what her debut did for me. So many stories of her depression, her crazy behavior, her isolation and then the Fugee’s reunite for Dave Chappelle’s Block Party. Excitement was all around with the hope of new Fugee’s music and new Lauryn Hill material. Both tracks that were released by the Fugee’s and Lauryn were not that great. The tracks were quickly buried under the rug. Here we are all these years later still waiting and hoping for a Lauryn Hill album that will impact, inspire, and change us just like The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill did. Where can you go in LA to get some cheap beer, hear some good music, watch some great performances and be around a bunch of Dykes? Shotgun every Wednesday night at the Eagle LA formerly known as the Gauntlet II in Silverlake. Shotgun is the place to be on Wednesday nights even if your not a Dyke. This Dyke night has some of the raddest queers in LA or visiting LA stop by and hangout. I personally have always preferred to go to the Eagle on Shotgun nights the boys are cuter and more interesting. This past Friday night Graham and I had tickets to go see Diana Ross at the Hollywood Bowl. Every summer the Hollywood Bowl does a series of concerts where they sell really cheap tickets for the nosebleed section. So when Graham and I looked over the summer schedule we both agreed on Diana Ross. I did not really know what to expect but figured it would be fun. I never thought that I would actually ever see Diana Ross in concert. I have always loved the Supremes and have been a big fan of Diana as a solo artist. So actually getting to see her come out on stage and sing songs from the Supremes was awesome. Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday my boyfriend Graham, my friend Maryann and I decided to take a “Daycation”. We drove out to Cabazon to visit the dinosaurs. Maryann had never been which was surprising to Graham and I. Maryann is a fan of Pee Wee and they were featured in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure and she loves the desert. It just seemed like something she should have gone to. So Graham and I made it our mission to visit the dino’s. The sad part of the trip is that now you need to pay $5 to go into the T-Rex. They added all these mini dino’s behind a wooden fence with a sign that promises a ride on the robot dino. So you need to pay to ride the robot dino and the entrance to T-Rex is behind the fence. So much has gone on these past few days so I thought I would share it with you all. I guess it all started last Wednesday when my brother called me to let me know his wife was going into labor. Later that evening I had to DJ at Shotgun . It was an Outfest after party for film the Affinity. A lesbian prison film set in the late 1800’s. The night was a total blast but I have to say the highlights were playing “Whatta Man” by Salt-N-Pepa while my friend Greg was being dominated on stage. I was trying to make him laugh but he was a good sport and kept in the laughter while being spanked, getting candle wax dripped on him, and having his nipples tugged on. The other highlight of the night was meeting Jay McCarroll of Project Runway fame. Right before closing he requested the B-52’s and I played “Legal Tender”.
